Environment

In a responsible approach to environmental issues, S.E.M.T. Pielstick is acting in various ways, amongst them is the exhaust gas emission reduction:

  • All S.E.M.T. Pielstick engines marketed today by our company and our Licensee network, comply both with the IMO-MARPOL present regulation for the marine market and WORLD BANK emission regulations for the stationary market.
  • For more stringent local exhaust gas emission regulations, S.E.M.T. Pielstick is able to supply adapted suitable solutions to cope with them.

In that line, an important part of our R & D efforts is devoted to reduce exhaust gas emissions:
    • by internal means such as newly designed injection system and combustion chamber coupled optimization based on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and full scale engine test,
    • by external systems such as water vapour addition to engine air inlet (HAM patented process) resulting in NOx reduction up to 80% without using reducing agent (area or ammonia). Only water is used, either fresh or sea water when available.
  • Concerned with environmental matters, we delegate our renowned experts to various authorities as ISO (International Standard Organisation), CIMAC (International Council on Combustion Engines) EUROMOT (European Association of Internal combustion Engine Manufacturers) and various national agencies, where future rules and regulations are debated.
